Was wondering if the Wordpress plugin has been tested with the upcoming WP2.4 release. It completely changes the way passwords are stored and re-vamps the user/password database. This sounds like a problem for those using the Wordpress integration plugin.

Has Amember done testing with the WP2.4 pre-release to ensure things go smoothly? Will the plugin need updating? Some information for users would be welcome.

Information on the changes can be found here:

    http://boren.nu/archives/2007/12/17/secure-cookies-and-passwords/

I suggest someone upgrade to the Wordpress SVN trunk and test out how things go.

The files can be found here.

    http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress/trunk/

It should be noted that once users upgrade to Wordpress 2.4 the changes to the user database are non-revertive, meaning you cannot undo the install. If the plugin fails, there will be nothing you can do except restore a database backup.

Wordpress 2.4 is not going to be released. Instead, it will be skipped and Wordpress 2.5 will be released on March 24, 2008.

    WP 2.5 = WP2.4 + more

Yes, but this still needs to be tested. The changes are in the WP trunk.

I would test it myself but I only own one copy of amember and it is in use on my production site.

OK, WP delayed one week and is due next week. Anyone know if an upgrade to 2.5 will break Amember?

    **laughs hysterically**

**grabs hold of self and squeezes the laugh off**

You guys are talking about 2.5 version? I can't even get the trial version of the Wordpress plugin to work. Apparently the trial version only works with wordpress 2.04 or some such. I can't spend money on the "real" product until I have something to show to the site owner that this will work for them. Since I haven't gotten an answer via the help ticket system about this, I don't even know if this software is still being supported. And my deadline looms...

Sorry, this is just another roadblock along the broken freeway I've experienced so far with this project. Am wondering why absolutely NOTHING has worked as promised this past two weeks. I shall have to wear a wig soon at this rate.

So you guys believe that this software is still being supported?

    Legacy Password Hashing Plugin

Looks like the WP developers understand our plight.

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/md5-password-hashes/

This plugin should allow WP 2.5 to continue to operate with the existing Amember WP plugin.

I hope that this doesn't mean the Amember plugin will never be updated...

    schmitt,

Is your main concern the storage of passwords using phpass or do you have additional needs you are wanting from the Amember plugin above and beyond what it does today?

    schmitt,

As of today WP 2.5 is still not out. I think expecting the aMember plugin to be ready before the version is released for public consumption is a little premature. There has been a lot of chatter about WP 2.5. Many are reluctant to change as soon as it comes out due to the major changes in this release.

I use about 7 plug-ins on my site (including the amember/wordpress plugin) that I consider essential. I checked today and only 1 of these 7 is advertising that they are WP 2.5 ready. So if the aMember/Wordpress plugin was ready today, I would still have to wait for the other 5 before I could upgrade.

I have grown to be cautious of becoming an early adopter for the sake of having the newest version of anything. I doubt if I would consider updating to 2.5 for at least 6 months and several bug fix updates.

All that being said, I am sure that Alex will update the amember/wordpress plugin in a reasonable amount of time. I say that based on a trouble ticket I submitted last week when I discovered that the aMember/Wordpress plugin was not handling the changing from one Wordpress role to another correctly. The plugin was modified and the problem fixed in 24 hours.

There seem to have been quite a few changes in WordPress 2.5 that will effect the current aMember plugin (not just the password hashing method). Although the above is a workaround for one issue, the changes to WordPress cookies mean the current aMember plugin is unable to handle the WordPress login/out process with WP2.5 - this seems to be the case on my test installation at least.

I'd suggest that anybody with an aMember/WordPress site not rush to upgrade their WP installation until an aMember plugin is available that fully supports it.

I too hope the plugin will be updated, I too have had good support and I too won't upgrade for the reasons you outline but there hasn't been any communication indicating if/when a fix would come.

Side note - how do we know when a plugin is updated?
