During my pre-sales testing I found authorize.net's invoice showed $1 was charged to the customer when the membership was processed, and this, when this first cycle was a free trial period. Monthly membership fees apply after the initial cycle ends. I was surprised at this finding, so I searched this board and found a single post, dated 4/27/06, regarding an almost identical situation. That post is here.

I understand the theory behind this charge, but was hoping the process only occurred during testing, and that amember has resolved this issue since the 4/27/06 post.

Could anyone with a free trial membership period let me know if the customer is still charged the $1? If so, I feel I need to incorporate this somewhere in the User Agreement and Terms of Use to inform them, since during my test I received the authroize.net invoice the customer would receive and it showed the $1 charge.

Also, if the issue is ongoing, is it authroize.net specific, or does PayPal end up sending an invoice for $1 prior to the void coming through.

I appreciate any info you can share.

aMember sends Auth.net an "Authorize and Capture" code, then immediately cancels the order. This verifies the person/card is real and info matches.

I don't use PayPal, but I don't think this happens with PayPal. Maybe someone else can provide further info.

The current system works with Auth.net. But Alex and his team really should modify aMember to send the "Authorize Only" code. This will verify the info and avoid possible confusion/conflict. Plus Auth.net strongly prefers merchants use "Authorize Only" when appropriate.

    Again for Alex:
Have aMember send "Auth Only" for trials. ;););)

I'm with you on that one. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'll be sure to put that in my Terms of Use and User Agreements so I'm covered.

    Best,

You should definitely put this request in a support ticket, the more people who request it the more likely they are to make the change.
