A single product required...

    We have over 200 products in our aMember 3.2.x installation.

    One product is called basic membership - that's a free membership. The funnel we were building was to bring people into basic and covert them to paid at some point removing them from basic.

    We discovered that people who did NOT have the basic membership added to any product purchase could not login - they would get a redirect error that couldn't be resolved if they didn't have the basic in their account.

    So, we mass subscribed everyone to the basic. But that kills our funnel process. And our list segmentation.

    Is this an error? Or is aMember designed to require a specific product for anything else to work?

    No aMember doesn't require a product. User should be able to login into his account even if he doesn't have an active product.
    The problem seems to be in protection or in customizations which you may have.
