Hi there, Ok, this is my first time posting, usually my assistant Andy posts. Having just launched Amember, I am noticing an issue. The only 2 clients I have have been locked out. One isn't returning my e-mails, the other said she hasn't been sharing & I believe her. So when asking her what kind of access she has, she said wireless & Andy said that that may be the problem. So, what are you guys doing regarding this? That means anyone on dialup or wireless will be using different IP addresses all of the time, correct? We can't keep going in there & turning it off for every client who gets locked out b/c of this, we could be there all day. Thanks Michelle
You can adjust the number of IP address and the time range considered, or: 3 IP addresses in 60 minutes Unless the user is constantly connecting -> disconnecting -> reconnecting to their ISP (be it wired, wireless or dialup) you should be able to find a combination that works for you. In my example above, a user would have to disconnect and reconnect to their ISP 3 times in 60 minutes in order to be flagged, which in my experience, is quite unlikely to happen. You can adjust these settings in AdminCP -> Setup Configuration -> Advanced
Check logs for the user, I have found with a FEW subscribers that they connect via ISP's who dynamically change the IP every few mins during a single continous session. I have found it most prevalent with (but not limited to) some Singapore ISPs and for that particular subscriber you may have to disable autolocking.
Good point calisolllc.. account sharing can be disabled on a user by user basis in Admin CP -> User Record
Ok, a busy business can't spend all their time deciding if someone is sharing or it's just the natural progression of dialup, wireless, etc. I already know one can disable that, but once again, we can't keep doing that for everyone. I was hoping others had the same issues & could tell us how to solve the problem. Thanks Michelle
Hi Michelle, I couldn't agree more. This is certainly a situation where you monitor behavior of your users for a short period of time, tune it, set it and forget it. While I can't speak for everyone, mine is set at 3 IPs in 60 minutes and I've not had a false positive in 4+ years with tens of thousands of domestic and international members. Good Luck! Skippy
The information we gave is exactly how to rectify the situation ... that is the only solution if you really feel you need to block account sharing, in fact its probably the only method ANY software can give you to block people sharing your information with their accounts to others. However, I do agree with you about it being time consuming to check it continously, Im only relating what the situation is and what we've discovered. We monitored the problem (small as it is usually) at the beginning only We found with our client base that the instances of it are low generally and the two alternative strategies are to set a sensible threshold and only disable those that contact customer service with complaints (1 in maybe 500) and disable their autolocking OR to turn it off completely and put up with the small number of people who will cheat you by sharing their account details with others. No matter what you do whenever you sell digital information of any sort some of it will be shared illegally, and and in my experience those that steal it were never going to buy it anyway
