I'm still testing out my Pro version that was installed last week. I added a couple fake members, and it was going fine. Today, from the Admin screens, I tried to add another test member, and I got this error message: "Cannot open /home/mysite/www/www/amember/data/.htpasswd for write. Make directory /home/mysite/www/www/amember/data and this file writeable for PHP scripts. " I noticed I don't have a data folder in my amember folder. I am fairly sure I haven't changed anything except the info in the templates, but I could be wrong. I'm at work right now...I assume it doesn't matter that I'm using a different machine? Thanks!
Hi Tara, You should have a "data" folder. There should be 3 files in there: .htaccess, .htgroup, and .htpasswd. If you download the script again, you should be able to unzip that folder, or recreate these three files in this directory. Are you sure if was not accidently erased?
It has been accidentally deleted - there cannot be any other reasons. aMember don't delete forlders for sure Create directory amember/data and chmod (change permissions) to 777 Login into aMember admin panel and save any customer record - it will re-create htgroup, and .htpasswd files.
Yes, I'm sure it was me, I just don't know how or why I did it. I created the data folder, but what do you mean by: chmod (change permissions) to 777 Where is this and how do I do it? Thanks again.
You can change file permissions with FTP clients or using your hosting control panel. Please review these links : http://www.spaceports.com/~scifi/chmodtutor.html http://www.evolt.org/article/A_quick_and_d...ml?format=print
I found the permission in my host file manager and everything is back to normal...I'm able to add users and still have my old test users. I'm still concerned how I deleted the data folder (without actually deleting it from the file manager). Does it get deleted by any command in the Admin screen of aMember, such as the "rebuild db" command (I "experimented" with this last week). I don't want to cause problems once I have actual members stored!
There is no such a code in aMember to delete or create ANY directories. I would check your web publishing software and configure it to DON'T TOUCH AMEMBER FOLDER AT ALL! Else you will have such troubles every time.
