aMember 3.2.3 and wordpress roles

We have several products and we've set several of the products to assign the wordpress role of "subscriber"

The problem is that as an admin, whenever I'm testing the product, I get booted out of Admin and demoted to subscriber.

1. Is choosing a wordpress role necessary? or can we do with it at all on all products?
2. Do the new users even have to be added to wordpress if they are attached to aMember?

Simple solution, I always work in admin in IE and the view as a user in firefox (for example).
