Hi there, I've been using AMember for almost two years now (AMAZING script and support, thank you Alex... I never pass up an opportunity to recommend it) and I'm looking to finally get everything integrated. I have a site with two PHPNuke installations (6.9), one being a membership area protected by AMember. The non-protected installation also has phpBB forums. Most members have an account in both the non-protected PHPNuke and AMember, but not all of them. I want to consolidate the logins and be able to detect membership level across the site, and also for a single sign on. People get confused when they sign up for the paid site but then can't post to the forums, and so on! Is this possible with this PHPNuke plugin? What would need to be prepared? How would I merge the existing user bases? Could I use the new access levels to also manage access to a private forum (I do this manually now and it's a big pain)? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
1. There is no "single-login" implemented for phpBB plugin. Answer depends on... my response is only valid if you don't have aMember phpNuke plugin installed yet. If you already have it, then integration is impossible and really useless. NSN_Groups plugin can do all work for you, you don't need second phpNuke. 2. Yes, you can do membership databases integration. To do this you have to : - install and configure NSN_Groups plugin for phpNuke http://www.nukescripts.com/ - order and install aMember's phpNuke plugin from http://cgi-central.net/amember/member.php - import all your existing members from phpNuke to aMember: - export them to a .txt file from phpNuke; - then import using aMember CP -> Import function; - click to Rebuild Db; it is not trivial operation and we recommend to contact support so we will suggest you with 2 last steps.
Thanks for the reply. No I haven't purchased the plugin yet. So the user will have to enter their login twice? The reason I have two installations is because they are like different sites... completely different page layout, separate photo galleries, news, etc. I will contact support regarding potential additional customization and such. I believe there is a way to have two Nuke installations use the same user database, I may need to do that first.
Hey Steph...got a question... Are you using Smarty templates tags in your phpNuke blocks? If so how are you doing it? Also, when a user logs in do you have them log in using the aMember login.php script or do you have them log into the PHPNuke system itself? Jason
Not sure exactly what you mean. There are currently two logins, one for the main Nuke site (optional, required for forum posting, additional content, etc.) and then the AMember area. The AMember area's content may be managed using Nuke but there is no required Nuke login.
Log In Information Do your users have to log in to get to the aMember site? I would assume they do. If they do then do you use aMember the aMember login script to control access to that part of the site or do they use the phpNuke login? The thing is I have installed PostNuke and am attempting to use the aMember postnuke plugin. It works all they way up to the login point...when a user logs in using the aMember login script (i.e.: login.php) and then gets redirected to the PostNuke CMS site, the CMS system shows that the user is logged in if you look in the member list for the site, but the CMS system does not recognize that I am that person, it thinks I am an unregistered user. The reason I am bugging you is that I am thinking of switching to phpNuke instead of postnuke. Jason
USE XOOPS much better CMS and the install instructions are already posted here. xoops.org You can use BOTH logins but you have to set permissions for a new user group and what they can access. It sounds hard but onc eyou do it it is easy. I found Xoops works the best as far as CMS, security and lower over head for the servers. Besides less people try to hack it then the two you have talked about. Hope this helps I bought my plugin but afterwards I found the XOOPS plugin on the net, since any program or plugin that was made to intergrate into XOOPS has to be release as Free Open Source Coding.
Yes, they do. AMember just protects a directory, there is no other integration with Nuke and AMember other than that they happen to reside on the same site I have no idea about the plugin yet, just trying to decide if it is my best course of action.
I'm afraid another CMS is impossible at this point. I have a very large site and PHPNuke has been extensively customized to suit my needs. I've become a fan of other CMSes since then, but I'm happy enough with PHPNuke and going to have to stick with it for the forseeable future
