Michelle, you paid for working software and you got it. Quit your bitching. Did you pay for extra/added support?

Does microsoft answer all your support for days, months, years after a purchase? No. I've heard Dell tell customers to shove it after their $2000 computer doesnt work after 30 days. I understand he says 24 hour response time and MOST PEOPLE here are getting it.

What is your motive to attack amember and Alex like this?
Alex charges what he does and provides what he says. Anything above and beyond isnt his responsibility. If you have issues with things that aren't supported, that has nothing to do with Alex.

I suggested to Alex to initiate a cost per ticket basis. He does not owe you hours of support nor your time invested. He really owes you nothing.

Geez. You call that running a business? You actually wasted 4 days waiting for a reply. Then spent the time you write that response here? You waited 4 months for him to install something?? Guess what, you could have hired someone and had it done in 1 hour, instead you wasted 4 months.

You have a lot to learn about running a business, not Alex.

I've found aMember to be reliable and Alex to be VERY responsive to support requests.

If your business depends on your website, hire a knowledgeable developer. There are plenty of supported reliable payment gateways out there.... if you are running a solid business.

    about to purchase

    Hi Everyone.

My first post here. I've not purchased aMember as yet, or tried the free trial, but it is at the top of my list. I have a couple of questions to ask before I make the final decision, but will start a new thread elsewhere for that.

I have been reading this thread with interest, and as an outsider have a few comments to make:

    1. This is a script. It is not bespoke software written for your business model so don't expect it to behave as such. Yes it should do what it says on the tin, but that is where the obligation ends. If you want an all singing all dancing bit of software that can be modified to do just about anything and everything you want, start looking for a company to write it for you.
    2. Writting a new plug-in to fit your needs was done for free and you are complaining?
    3. This is not the place to discuss the many alternatives and it is not unreasonable for Alex to request that you don't. Most of the ones I have looked at cost more per month than aMember does for a one off payment.
    4. I have never seen any other script provider offer free lifetime support. So if it takes 4 days it takes 4 days. If we were paying for support then that timeframe would be unacceptable, so Alex should consider what he has time to deliver before charging.
    5. I would be quite happy to pay someone to modify the code to suit my needs better, this would be much much cheaper than having bespoke software written.

    Regards
    Paul

My experience with Alex, support, etc has generally been pretty good. Only today I had a key issue that needed to be fixed (ensuring Paypal pages loaded in english) and he got back to me with a code tweak in less than 50 minutes. I've just gone through an upgrade to the latest version and, yes, each reply from him was 12-24 hours but that's what he's promised and that's what he delivers. Is it super speedy? No. Is it better than trying to get in touch with paypal or adsense and getting 3 keyword parsed auto-replies back in response...you betcha!

I'm a great believer in "you get what you pay for" in this world. aMember costs less than two hundred bucks which is nothing in today's world. It's probably been worth around $5000 to me, no word of a lie. If people want top-of-the-range products with, importantly, top-of-the-range support, you're going to have to pay out whacking great numbers like that. That, my friends, is business. You don't pay 200 measly bucks for a script with free support and then moan. As someone else stated above, THAT is the bad bussiness practice, not alex with his slightly slow response rate.

Back to the original post...Is aMember being left for dead?
About 3 or 4 YEARS ago there was word of a version 4 being written.
Actaully it was not rumor, it was was from "the horses mouth" so to speak, Alex himself.

AMember works fine, but web technology has come a long way since then and
there are many features that could make this great product even better.

I not complaining, but I am still curious as to the progress or existence of version 4.

Once I saw patches start coming out again, I figured Alex just needed some extra cash in the way of $40 support extensions.

IMHO, support should end at version 3.x.x and version 4 would required a new license.
I personally would be very willing to shell out up several hundred $$$$ for a new Pro version.

Finally, I write software myself and I too hate it when people ask "when will it be done", so I sympathize with Alex.

aMember v3.1.6 was just released, so I disagree that it is left for dead.

The patches are necessary fixes, if you follow the progress of the software. So I disagree that Alex needed extra cash via $40 extensions.

If they are small updates, no reason to jump from 3.1.4 to 4.0.0, agree?

I'm happy with Alex and Amember.

At times it takes a while to get a reply, but overall, very good. :)

    OK

People say it is being 'left for dead' .. point me to the ones leaving it for dead and I will have a look.

Most times they are total wastes of space! .. apart from aMember/CGI I have written more of the plugins than anybody .. nothing is as good as aMember, you can have it do anything you want, any time, any how .. what do you people expect!
