Anyone else have problem with 2 part signup/payment?

Ok, does anyone else have a problem with the user having to enter his name, email, and password before continuing to the next screen for payment?

It seems that this 2 part payment process could be cuasing a lot of shopping cart abandonment. I am getting less than 10% of the people that go through part one (enter their name, email, password) to actually finish through part 2 and pay...why would people click to order, enter information, click to continue and then not pay? I get 100 people that go through part 1 of the payment and only 10 or less actually pay. Is this happening with others?

I think it would be better to have all the info for them to enter on one page. Is there any workaround to do this?

    Thanks

I believe the problem is not 2-step process, but something else.
What is a difference to fill-in 8 fields in one form, or 4 fields in first, then 4 in second? (numbers are here just for example).
I believe even if there is difference in usability, it may be 1-2%.

That is the life of having a online payment system. There are a lot of reasons people may not signup completely but I don't think having it in two steps is a big problem. We have a 6% payment ratio based off of people that enter their basic information which is not bad since we get a lot of customers.

Do a google search on shopping cart abandonment to get some tips on how to reduce it.

why a two part signup process?

so why does amember use a 2-page signup process instead of a single-page?

It is not 2-page signup process. After signup page, aMember redirects a customer to payment page - it may be a built-in credit card info form, or PayPal payment form for example. It is to make interface and behavior the same with any payment processor.

zthomasz, were you able to get this to a one page signup?

Care to share how/what was involved?

If I am not mistaken, after submitting the signup page the user account is created but marked as "non-paid". So even if the customer does not complete the payment, there is actually an account created - set to inactive or whatever it should be called.

But the point is, it is possible to set aMember to send a reminder to the potential customer one or more days later, and remind him that he should login to his aMember member are and finish the order process from there.

This, in my opinion, could indeed result in more sales.

Ideally it would be possible to have a sign up page with a "Accept terms and conditions" checkbox as well as entry fields for payment options that support it (such as credit card)
