Auto locking by IP

  1. I regularly have people being locked out. What causes this and what is the purpose of this automated feature?

    Louis the autolockin function is there to preven user to share the account with other user.

    If a suer access the account with several IP during a shot period of time amember locks the account to prevent sharing.

    you can change the number of allowed ip and time count under the advanced option in the admin cp in mamber pro.

    look for : Maximum count of different IP

    and: Count IP for ... hours

    Try to make these settings less restictive, increase number of IP, or decrease count of hours.

    is a person with assigned dynamic IPs logged in as having several IPs?

    I'm surprised by the very few number of people locked out because of # of IPs used... but they insist they are the only person using the account. the only explanation is that I think they must log in using dynamic IPs, but it seems there would be a lot more people reporting this problem since dynamic IPs are the norm.

    anyone have a suggestion for solution to keep people honest, but not lock out honest people?

    Unfortunately, there are ISP/proxies that issue new IP for each request. You have 2 ways: disable IP checking or personally disable IP checking for these persons (you can do it in user profile).
