Can I set up Affiliate so Affiliates are only paid once?

Hello, I have recurring monthly billing, but I only want to pay my affiliates one commission for one time only for people they send to me who sign up for monthly membership.. Can I( set up affiliate commission so they are only paid once and so I don't have to pay recurring affiliate payments

You can set it in each product once you enable affiliates in the main setup.

Sorry, can you give an example? Of a step by step how to do this? I just don't understand the technicalities of this. :-(
