After I set up the trial version, I noticed it recommended a dedicated server for recurring payments to prevent others messing with the credit card numbers. Most dedicated servers cost well above my budget. I noticed hostgator had a dedicated IP. Isn't this the same thing as a dedicted server? If its not, can the dedicated IP through hostgator prevent anyone messing with subscribers credit card numbers to the same degree as an dedicated server? The dedicated IP is listed under the Business Plan here: http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml
Will you be storing the credit cards or using a 3rd party system like paypal regular? If using paypal regular, shared will be ok. (depending on site usage) David
I don't exactly know what the terminology "Paypal regular" is? I would be using "paypal subscription" most likely right? Im not sure if they are classifed together or not. I have only dealt with paypal once with a buy now button. Please let me know. Thanks
You don't need dedicated server in this situation. With paypal website payments standart CC info will not be stored on taken in aMember. All subscription information will be stored in paypal itself and it just will notify aMember about completed rebills.
If you are capturing and/or storing credit card details you need to review https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payment_Card_Industry_Data_Security_Standard and then dig from there.... Notice the above .. if you have people enter CC details onto your site you need to be PCI compliant, I reckon that would also include an online form. If you are going to do stuff with CC's talk to a PCI authorised QSA. But then again I is just an old grumpy bankie. Larry
