Can one product cancel another automatically?

I have a free lifetime subscription, and a paid membership offering.

I'd like to have the paid membership cancel the lifetime subscription - is that possible?

For that matter, can you even cancel a lifetime subscription?

So I found out how to manually delete the lifetime subscription - delete the corresponding invoice on the account, and it goes away.

Now the question - is it possible for this to be an automatic/scripted thing?
