Chmod 606?

Discussion in 'Installation' started by Guest_MCosgrove, Aug 19, 2003.

  1. I went through all the installation steps. and it said:

    aMember Installation

File '/home/cosgro2/public_html/amember/config.inc.php' is already exists and non-zero. Please remove it or delete all content if you want to do full reconfiguration

File '/home/cosgro2/public_html/amember/config_plugins.inc.php' is already exists and non-zero. Please remove it or delete all content if you want to do full reconfiguration

Does this mean I need to run chmod 606? If that's the case, how do I run it? Did I possibly make some other kind of dreadful error?

    Thanks in advance!

I think what has caused your problem is that you have made a mistake in your set up and config.inc.php was generated with your database connection info in the intsallation process.

If you then try again and install the program will see that the file is already generated, and that is what the error message is telling you.

When I install I create an empty database and a clean directory on the server to put the amember files.

I gave the config files permissions of 777 before I installed through the browser.
The installer will fill the database with your tables and create the config.inc.php file.

If you make a mistake you have to start again try a new set of files and a clean database.

Have a good read and check your install process.
  5. I uninstalled and reinstalled a new MYSQL database on the server. I deleted all the files that had anything to do with amember off the server. I followed every instruction in the documentation for setup.

    http://www.cgi-central.net/opened/html/x244.htm

This was the only instruction I had doubt about:

I put the 'folder data' and 'folder templates_c' in the main directory at the same level as the 'amember' folder.

What are those 'empty files'? I assumed they were folders. I guess they could be pages. I made them writable in the FrontPage administration counsel and placed them inside the 'amember' folder.

The three things I can create in FP 2002 are Pages, Folders, and Document Library's. I can create the first two. However, when I try to create a 'document library' it brings up an error message - ". . . your website must be on a server that is running Share Point Team Services from Microsoft". The OS of the server is Linux.

Have I come to a dead end? Any suggestions from this point would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would suggest using FTP to do all this. FrontPage is unfortunately, not good for working with script files, whether it be php, perl or whatever. Just not a preferred tool.

FTP and frontpage can be used at the same time safely, as long as you practice safe ftping and your server admin doesn't turn off FTP access just becasue FrontPage is installed.

Try connecting to your ftp server (usually ftp.domain.com or www.domain.com) with an FTP client such as SmartFTP ( www.smartftp.com ) and uploading the files. Set the permissions via the CHMOD command (right-click any file on your server, and click, chmod, then select which permissions you want).

When it says to creat the two files, it is talking about pages. Not folders. And chmod them 0777.

If you still have trouble, Alex will install for free, just contact him.
