I'm looking for a commenting function that will allow my members to comment on my website. When a member leaves a comment, the comment should be linked to their profile and the commenter should be able to track all his comment in his own profile. Does anyone know how to do this? If you do and can help me set it up, I'm willing to pay $100USD for your help. Thanks much, Ormus
Hi Ormus, Need to find out more about your website. You can reach me at codeispoetry [at] amemberincremental.com Lee
I'm seeing a trend in this forum recently of threads dying off to private emails which is a shame.. @ormus: depending on what you mean by "comment on your website". Where do there comments get written? A specific page? Multiple pages? What software is your site running today? An option you may want to check out is Disqus it provides a means to manage commenting across your site with minimal implementation requirements. Otherwise, considering some of the core functionality that say the aMember <-> WordPress integration provides may give you that functionality out of the box with no custom coding required.
Hi Skippy, With your saying that, I feel strongly to write a reply. I think your words are unappreciative and unkind. What I feel is "a shame" is a person who needs help but is banging their heads and wasting time figuring out something that I already have answers for. It depends. I have found it more effective to provide laser-specific solutions and answers to the issues that they are facing - hit the nail on the head - rather than making general assumptions (which can be many) on this setting or that code, and typing out essay answers that demonstrate my language skills rather than helping to solve problems. Over private email, we discuss additional info that they may not wish to share on public forums, e.g. web urls, ftp logins, membership models, content, industry, etc. , which is what happens most of the time. And I leave it to the requester to post back the info they choose to share. For more straightforward cases and those who have shared info in their posts, I have always answered on these forums. I personally am not for giving generalities or even multiple-choice answers like trying to hit a nail in the dark. This not only leaves our members banging their head and pulling out their hair weeding out for the correct one, but also, we are spending our time on giving general answers that are not treating the problem effectively. Although I have provided my private email that suggest to take the discussion offsite, it doesn't and shouldn't stop you from providing your answer, which I see you have posted a reply to Ormus. I think I am better with providing laser-specific answers and understanding their issues with fewer to-fro tendencies, so I can help more people. Cheers, Lee
@Lee: Was not my intent to single anyone out and I sincerely apologize if my comment seemed unappreciative or unkind of any community member's efforts. I look at this forum as an evolving knowledge base of problems and solutions to help new users, as well as seasoned users having new problems. As such it can be frustrating to search, find the exact issue you are having, only to discover the solution having been sorted offline. As a community member, my hope would be that once a solution is sorted offline, that the solution be posted back into the thread. If we don't, we leave ourselves hanging like mjmtaiwan was in this thread, for example. My concern is less about style or approach of troubleshooting (discussing private matters via email or IM is completely appropriate), more about the follow up after the fact to make sure we feed the knowledge back into the community.
I see what you mean Skippy, I have made a post to the thread you mentioned. Just to clear the air on "following up", I did not receive an email from Justin. Perhaps he has found a solution himself. Cheers, Lee
