Is there a way to configure the expiration date of a product that is conditional upon whether a user purchases additional products. For example. I run an online school where each product is a semester of content. Can I set things up so that the product subscription expires after 1 year unless the user subscribes to additional semesters? Right now if I set expiration for semester 1 to 12 months then the user loses access to semester 1 even if they are subscribed to semester 2 or later. I would like for users to keep access as long as they are an "active" member. If they choose not to sign up for additional content, then their membership sunsets and they lose access after a year.

Any thoughts on how to make this work?

This can be done with customization only. But I think you already should be able to do what you need when you protect content.
For example ilet's say you have these products:
    semester 1
    semester 2
    semester 3
    and these folders:
    /folder1/ for semester1 product
    /folder2/ for semester2 product
    /folder3/ for semester3 product
When you set protection for folder1 select all three product.
    for folder2 select semester2 and semester3
    for folder3 only semester 3
now configure products so they can be purchased in correct order only( from 1 to 3). use Require other product/ Dissalow product settings.
