I am getting ready to do my upgrade to 3.1.9 and I am a bit confused by the instructions. Pardon me for being a little paranoid about this, but I hate messing with my membership site too much....

I thought I would post my personal confusion with the instructions, in case anyone else is having the same issue. The instructions first tell you to rename your amember directory to amember-xx. At this point there is no longer an /amember directory, yet the directions subsequently refer to running the setup files in the /amember directory. So I assume you want us to create a new /amember directory and dump the upgrade files into that folder. But from what I understand, the upgrade kit only contains the files that have been modified, so this new /amember folder would be an incomplete installation, no? I would imagine that simply copying over the config file at this stage isn't going to make it work. And of course, any plugins you have are still going to be sitting over in the /amember-xx folder.

Could someone give me a bit of guidance or clarification on this? I would really appreciate it.

I simply copied my whole member directory to my desktop via FTP. Then backed up the database in my cpanel of my hosting provider. I did a database backup from within amember admin panel, and exported all users to a csv file.. (Can never have too many backups)

I did not see anything about changing the folder to amember-xx.

I was coming from a trial 3.1.8 to purchased 3.1.9PRO. I overwrote the entire amember directory. Then ran the license fix tool to remove my trial license and replace it with my purchased license. Then I ran the update_db.php file... All is fine for me.

If you currently have all paid amember files on your site (not trial files) then I think you can simply upload the partial files in the update pack. It contains only files that have been changed since your version. Then run update_db.php.

Just ensure you backup everything. Upgrades really aren't that scary when you have backups...
