Custom Income report

We would like to expand the income reports to include past years in the "end date" selection. Is there an easy way to do this?

Like:
{html_select_date time=$end_date prefix=end_date start_year="-5"}
in the income.inc.html file?

I did exactly that and it generates blank reports for previous years and no reports for 2006.
