OK Newbie here. I've downloaded latest version, I have not installed the plugin yet. I want to set up a remote development site for aMember Pro is this possible. What is the correct way to go about doing this?
Sorry not sure I've understood you. If you want to install amember on development server you should use regular installation instructions: http://www.amember.com/docs/.
Apologies. Let me make things a little clearer. It's aMember Pro for Wordpress. My client already has a website in existence and wants to do a complete redesign. So I am going to develop the new site on a separate server (a development site). I am going to install aMember Pro on the development site. My question is really this...is there any issue/difficulties that I may encounter doing this. I believe aMember requires you to specify the url on which this will be running. Short term it will be in a live development site before migrating to the main site. So does registering a specific url for aMember create issues in doing this. Sorry but I don't want to install on a development server rather a development site on shared hosting. Also I looked at your suggestion for installation. Please explain what point 4 means to the uninitiated?? 4.If setup script requires, make the following folders writable for the script (try chmod 707, 770 and 777 until it works): amember/data/ amember/data/new_rewrite/ amember/data/cache/ As I said I am completely new to this....Not to wordpress but to aMember. Do you have some clearly defined instructions for installation?
aMember need to write to these folders/files in order to work. In order to write to them they need to be made writeable. chmod is a server property wherby distinct attributes of the various folders/files possess are set. Using whatever ftp program you are using 'right click' on the respective folder, or file, (the copy on the server) you are wanting to change. This should bring up a selection of relevant commands. Select 'properties' and this should give you the option to set the 'Read/Write' attributes together with 'Read/Write' from where. The options are generally set by a number range. Set this to 777, initially, which is basically 'Read/Write' from everywhere. You can then change this setting to be more restrictive if you want to once everything is working ok.
OK...I think!@$! I followed the instructions for wordpress installation and seems OK so far. Hopefully when I'm over my anxiety about the installation, I'll come back to the forum with some sensible questions Thanks all..
