    Hi everyone,

I have created a few custom fields for user to enter their details.

My question is that possible to allow user to edit those fields in "edit profile" later on? when they want to change it later on?

Here's the custom fields I created.

Appreciate your help on this questions.

Yes, go into the forms editor and edit the form for profile.

What I mean is allow users to change their input from edit profile. Not edit the form by admin.

    Is that possible?

Go to aMember CP -> Forms Editor and edit 'profile' form.

    Hello Alex,

Currently the edit profile form only display default fields like showing below:

I need to put in the custom fields that I created as below and allow users to change it any time in future.

Have you tried adding the fields- blocks, to the form?

    Please literally follow these instructions:
Go to aMember Admin Control Panel
    Open Forms Editor from menu
Find the "profile" form in the forms list and click "Edit" on it
You will see blocks in left (enabled) and available blocks at right.
Find blocks for your newly added fields at right and drag-and-drop it to left.
    Save the form.
Check results by logging-in as customer and opening profile form.

Thank you neverknow1 for raising this. Although I have been happily adding a few custom fields to my custom signup forms (such as where did you search and what did you search for?) , it had not occurred to me to add some custom fields to the member's profile form. This is a great feature with lots of potential.

I reckon it's not a good idea to add too many questions at the signup stage as it could potentially put off some customers. To be able to invite them later to add more information about themselves is really useful. For example, my site is basically about sewing. To ask my members if they would like to tell me which sewing machines they use or their age group or skill level gives me a great way to target sections of my membership. And all the information is recorded and can be exported with the members records. Brillliant.

Alex, could you tell me about the potential downside of adding custom fields. It adds to the database size but will this impact on access times and slow everything up? Is there a suggested limit for extra custom fields?

    Thanks.

No, there are absolutely no problems with more fields. Just use SQL fields where possible.
