Expired Members changed to free?

On a new site I'm using version 3.1.4 PRO. I also have other sites on same server with 3.0.9 PRO.

With my older sites each morning when I login the expired members are shown on main amember page. I can then email them that subscription expired, or just delete them from the database.

This is how it has worked for me 4 years and 7 sites.

With the newer site I must have some setting wrong. When I login each morning the members that expired the night before are listed as "free" and the expired total remains as "0"

If I click "Rebuild Database" the expired members are then shown as expired and the free total is correct.

I can't seem to figure why that is?

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Thanks, but no. I also thought that was it and even went back and for testing created an extra cron just to run every hour, but didn't help.
