One of my subscriptions using amember is access to a community site. the community site is made using elgg community software...when i tried to protect that folder amember gave me an error message asking me to delete elgg's htaccess file, but when I did that the site would not work anymore, any solution for this?

You have to create the combined .htaccess file manually then... combining the stuff from Elgg's htaccess and the one generated by aMember

Just add aMember-generated code (you can protect another empty folder to get .htaccess code), to top of your .htaccess file.
