hi, I'm just setting up and wondered if anyone can help me with my ideal set up (and if it's possible). My payment gateway is WORLDPAY and I would like to offer 1 month FREE. Once they have their account I'd like it if they can upgrade to a paid account at any time (including when the free account has expired hopefully) I also would like to offer more than 1 level of paid subscriptions - how easy is it for them to upgrade from the $19.99 pm to the $29.99 pm or $39.99 pm seamlessly - i.e. without having to cancel the old account and re subscribe to the new account. I'm after a 1 click (or as easy as possible) way for them to increase or decrease their monthly fees and subscription type - without re-entering card details etc. If anyone can tell me what is and isn't possible, it could save me days of experimenting, so I much appreciate your time. All the best for 2011 to all the staff and users of amember! SW.
This is possible. One click upsell, downsell etc.. is not possible with worldpay. Everytime a new payment amount or period is required they need to cancel the existing account and signup for a new one. (at least last time i worked with worldpay) David
Unless you control the processing of the CC you wont be able to cancel/upgrade them automatically using any 3rd party (worldpay, clickbank etc.) that I'm aware of. David
thanks, by "take control of the CC" do you mean use one of the providers where the card details are stored in the database and presented - or do you literally mean take control i.e. I would need to export the card details and manually process them outside of the application? Most subscriptions I have if I call them and add something the credit card bill just goes up next month, rather than having to cancel the entire service or enter my card details again? Am I missing something?
David means that you, or rather aMember, handles the payments. aMember stores card details and applies for the payment rather than the payment processor initiating them. If you go down the route of storing card details be aware that the card issuers, Visa, Mastercard etc. lay down stringent requirements for site security. Shared hosting would be out for instance.
how does that system handle 3d secure - where the card owner has to enter a password or digits from their password? Can you ask the card site to switch that functionality off? Thanks for all this info, it's greatly appreciated.
If payment system and plugin supports 3d secure, CC will be verified on initial signup only. For recurring billing transactions will be handled without that verification.
hi, I appreciate all this help. I don't fancy keeping the database of credit cards - I don't mind having a dedicated server - but if people can hack nasa - they can hack my centos box if you know what I mean. What about PayPal NVP ? What would the client have to do to upgrade from one subscription to another? Do they have to cancel the existing one or is there an "upgrade" type feature in amember - and how would PayPal NVP handle the new price (be it up or down). Best Regards, SW. PS your link from your payment setup pages to the MaxMind system via an affiliate link is broken!
