I've been using amember for over four years on my site. I had it set up for a free membership with access to two site areas and two others requiring payment for a time limited subscription. I recently changed the site to not offer anything for free, but rather a basic subscription (formerly free, 2 site areas), a premium subscription (the 2 site areas I always charged for), and a full access subscription (all 4 site areas for 1 payment).

My site is an adult site. Here is the scenario I want to create with amember but can't figure out how to do it. I want the initial signup to be free for access to member.php where the "subscribed links" shows "you have no subscriptions" rather than "Free Membership". The initial signup is to verify a working e-mail address and to verify that the member is giving real name, etc. An adult site requiring a credit card to verify age is just bullshit, and I don't do recurring payments either. No subscriptions are offered on initial signup.php. The member.php has all the subscription payment options to add desired site content.

How do I keep a free signup without showing a Free Membership on member.php? After 4 years I decided that the Free Membership was a bad idea because there are too many unknowns and fakes in my database. In April I set amember to track access for a whole year without deleting access records so I can see how many members are remaining active over a long period of time since 2003. In October I started going through all members and deleting 'free membership' only members who have not accessed the site since April, and/or the ones without full "real" info in the database. It's a nightmare with over 4000 members on file but I have it down to 3792 so far...

Any assistance is appreciated. In return I'll be more than happy to share my knowledge and experience of using amember for a long period of time successfully. I have v3.09 installed and I'm patiently awaiting the new release that I hope will allow me to do this (and more security options) with a few clicks in the admin.

    Hi,
Why you don't want to use manually approve new users at aMember CP -> Setup -> Advanced?

I guess this will be more better in your situation.
User will signup and will not have access while he is not approved by admin.

It is an adult site, chargebacks are extensively avoided. I set the amember CP to verify e-mail for the signup. The member is only allowed to change password in profile but I altered the profile template to show all other info they submitted. Signup is free but access to content (2 areas each for each of 2 subscription levels or all 4 areas for a full access subscription for time limited or a lifetime membership for lifetime access to all areas plus a free digital download). So far it is working to reduce redundant signups but using the "Free" plugin over rides the "You have no subscriptions" under "Your Subscribed Links". I prefer to keep it automated because this type of content requires immediate access from the subscriber or they may want a refund if they don't get access after payment.
