    Hello,
I am in the process of installation. When I try to export my user data, the browser (FF or IE) just hangs and locks up my access to amember administration on my website for about three hours (fails to load). The backup function works, however. Thanks in advance for any clues.

    How big is your database?

Can you delete old records (through Admin CP)

There are about 10 users. It's just a few test accounts. Is there an upper limit of records, btw? Thank you for responding.

Sounds like a server time out. You may need to send a support ticket to your hosting company.

No upper limit to number of records.

I agree with David that a time out is a good place to start..

10 users sounds like a very small # of users to be causing an issue..

no upper limit that is published (or that I am aware of) but normal database maintenance is always suggested (delete old records, optimize, etc)

Thanks for responding. Nothing else on my website has ever timed out until I installed amember. I am not sure what this means, but why would I first think it was a server problem instead of bad script? I have purchased a copy, but am unable to get any customer support. This is frustrating. I have other questions I cannot get answers to, and am unable to reverse engineer from the sparse documentation available. For example, I am unable to find a way to do batch updating to the database. Is there a plug-in that will allow me to manipulate the database more than one record at a time? My current database, which I want to import, has records with more than 16 fields. The import function seems hardwired limited to 16. Is there a workaround for importing larger records? I send out a daily newsletter via email for the autism community. It has both paid and unpaid subscribers. The unpaid users are 14,000. There are usually about 20 to 30 hard bounces per day. Those I would want to batch delete those. How?

Firstly you had the option of testing a FREE 30 day trial to find out the limitations of the software but evidently didnt avail yourself of that.
Secondly you could have read the manual.
Thirdly you could have asked your questions here.
Fourthly you could have taken notice of what VERY experienced users told you
Your questions about only 16 fields being available ... the software was written for a majority of users with sensible limits put into place. SOME people will require more fields etc but thats NOT the fault of the software, its a fact of life. Its like buying a handsaw and expecting it to cut down Redwoods with it...It's not Microsoft Excel thats designed to be configurable for every "What if" situation know to mankind. If you want or really need more fields your options are as follows. Modify the code yourself, pay someone to do it or ask nicely to have Alex do it IF he has time.
Lastly as to the fact your server has never timed out before doesnt mean SQUAT. All software and scripts use different server resources and in different amounts on a server and its likely that the configuration of your server needs tweaking, a job that is YOUR responsibility or your hosting company support NOT amembers.
And how can you check that, READ YOUR SERVER LOGS. If you don't know how to or understand them then Id suggest you are not experienced enough to be "reverse engineering" the product as you stated.
As with all software that is to be used on webservers the responsibility for fitness on any particular server config (and there are LIMITLESS configuration combinations) and the responsibility to ensure the correct configuration is YOURS
Thats the truth , the whole truth and nothing BUT the truth.
As for your other questions, there is a limitation to database manipulation which is probably good in order to stop people who know next to nothing, creating an even bigger mess. As for deleting hard bounces then theres an easy solution although not perfect. Do them one at a time.
As for assuming the problem was bad script, rather than SERVER CONFIGURATION MISMATCH as a first off option, is clearly niave thinking .
People on this forum are just other users giving you the benefit of their time and experience so PLEASE don't whine when they give SAGE advise, and it's not what you expected.
I HATE to come across sounding annoyed or demeaning but in light of your other post threatening to make a complaint to the FTC about your problem which is MOST likely to be due to something not under the responsibility of Amember then as they say in the movies... TOUGH.
Apologies to all the other forum members for this FLAME

    schaferatsprynet :

It sounds to me like this.
You want support for issues that clearly aren't script related.

Second, you're now suggesting you're going to file complaints with the FTC.

Third, you're claiming a bad script. I run a handful of larger sites with aMember without a hitch.

Get a life and quit your whining.
