Ok, here's what I'd like to do:

after someone signs up for membership on my site, after the credit card has been processed. Probably on the Thank you page, I'd like to offer them an opportunity to purchase a one month (non-reoccurring) membership for a friend at a discounted price (a gift certificate, so to speak). All they would do is give me the first and last lane and an email address and they would be charged for the one month membership. Their friend would get an email (with a special note from the gift giver) and to activate the membership, they just come on the site and login and fill in information.

Let me know if you can do this.

I get the idea, but shouldn't the person buying the certificate be able to send it themselves? If you email it direct you would also need to setup a way for the purchaser to add a note to your email message.

The only other issue is generally a gift certificate (if you think like a shop) anyone can redeem the certificate which would be the way I would do it using the coupon system. So what you would have is the person can buy a certificate for whatever $$$ you set that then generates a coupon (gift certificate) which is set to a specific amount/% off a specific product(s) single use only.

You really need to login to http://jlogica.com and we will discuss it there.
