I sell licenses to several software products that are frequently updated. The initial license includes the initial download and a one year subscription for update downloads. Annual subscription renewals are required for downloads after the first year, at a much lower cost than the cost of the initial license. It appears to me that the "Widget A" license and the "Widget A" support subscription are two different products, but how do I set it up so that buying the license also includes the support subscription membership? Also, I want it such that if the license expires, an additional fee is required to reinstate the membership. How do I set all of this up?
This is possible in ammeber by default. You should create two products and in main product settings set aMember CP -> manage products -> Edit Product -> Additional subscriptions. Second product will be added for free. But when expire, user will need to repurchase it.
