How to personalize email

    I have tried to personalise my email by sending emails such as the following:

    Dear {$user.name}

    But when I preview the user name is missing and the recipient only gets a letter that says

    Dear

    Are you selecting any user groups at the top of the page?

    Thank you Jack. I was testing it selecting a test product which I had disabled.
    I had sent out a mass e-mail without sending a test one to myself.
    It probably did work first time. It's just when I selected the user of the test product it didn't.

    Also try to use this as name:
    {$user.name_f} {$user.name_l}
