Ok I'm considering purchasing Amember for a new Joomla site but I'm perplexed as to why there are so many install questions/issues being posted here on the forums for all types of membership sites if Installation is offered free from the Amember team? This leads me to believe either.. 1) Amember team does not do a complete or correct job at installing 2) people just like to waste hours and hours "playing" with tweaks Well I'm hoping its #2... So maybe somebody who has experienced a free install from Amember staff to report back how it went for you? any issues? If so did staff leave you hanging? or were they quick to resolve? More specifically, anybody running Joomla 1.5 with a free install from Amember team? If so, does Admin's free install set your protected pages? modules? seemless sign up forms ,Forums? etc. Its not clear to me how amember works with Joomla and if the control of content, pages, moduels, etc., can be seen and chosen by admin in the admin user panel of Joomla? Thanks everybody! Frank
I certainly can't speak for everyone, but I (funny as it is to admit) fall into option #2. Installation is fairly straightforward, getting templates updated to match the look/feel/functionality of the rest of your site is one source of questions which falls outside of the install service.
I'm option 2 also. I installed amember onto my site on Thursday I think. Had it working in less than an hour. I've been playing with it ever since just experimenting and getting it integrated. I had one question that I asked tech support Thursday night and I had an answer waiting for me Friday morning. I'm impressed very much with the program so far, it has been very easy to work with.
To your question regarding staff. Alex and team have been very responsive to any issues. I tend to work through things myself, or through the community, to let the Amember team focus on Ameber v4
all questions that i asked have been answered within 24 hours which is reasonable. I guess it all goes to how much time you want to spend with the system. If you're really uninterested in installing software, then help with installation is the answer.
I am currently running Drupal with Amember, although I will be switching out for WordPress in the next 30 days. Do you have a question or how can I help?
I purchased Amember a couple of months ago and rather than wait to have it installed, I did it myself, took far less than an hour. I had one glitch, that was quickly resolved and have been very happy with the program and it's flexibility so far. Support does answer questions rather quickly or within 24 hours, which isn't that bad... As to plugin modules, I don't think that is part of the free support. I'm pretty sure, unless I'm seriously mistaken, that what you are paying for up front when you buy a module for a third party piece of software, is the benefit of having had a programmer do all the work you might otherwise have to pay someone to do or the hours you would have to do yourself. It seems it says on the site somewhere that they don't support third party software. So yes, they will install amember, but I'm not so sure they will do everything to solve your third party software problems and install modules. I noticed when I bought amember it has submit for a free install, but when you buy a module, it doesn't say that. Now that I read this, if the potential solution I just got from support doesn't work for me, then I'm going to actually email and ask them if they will install it, just to see if they do... because I am frustrated with not being able to get my database to talk with the module I just bought a few days ago.... but I'm sure it is more to do with my own ignorance and inexperience than it is with the software. I do highly recommend the software as a whole though, best value for the money on the market in my opinion. Justin
