Currently, I'm using PayPal to handle my processing needs, and it's worked well. Yet, I need to add another payment choice. Apparently, some buyers will not pay through PayPal. Though PayPal seems to work fine, my IM buddies who test much more than I believe I'm LOSING a bunch of money by relying *only* on PayPal.

Naturally, I'm concerned about storing cc info on (my) server (hosted account).

As far as I know, the alternative is to buy 1ShoppingCart or some equivalent service. I do not want to be responsible for cc numbers. Too risky, it seems to me.

**Question** Is something like 1SC the only alternative for avoiding the risk of storing CC info?

I sell a front-end product with a backend membership site, requiring recurring billing. Do gateways and merchants require an SSL certificate?

I guess I want what others want: a transparent, inexpensive & alternative (to PayPal) payment method.

    Thanks,
    Mike

What about this idea with Paypal and recurring subscriptions

Obviously Paypal requires one to sign up for a paypal account for automatic recurring billing.

What if you just set it up so that it sends out an email with a paypal 'pay now' link every month, (or whatever the period), set for the price that it would cost each month. Of course, the user has to pay each month, but if they don't want to create a paypal account, then so be it.

So, in the sign up process, you explain to them, if you don't want to create a paypal account, you will be required to pay the monthly fee when requested by email (say a week prior, and then a day prior as reminders). If you would rather the amount be deducted automatically, then create a paypal account, it only takes a few minutes.

What about that for a solution?

Or, another option is Clickbank - would paying by clickbank solve the issues of someone having to create a paypal account to be automatically billed every month?

Sorry missed this question I went to paypal.

I had a sellers account with Nochex but when I asked to upgrade I was simply refused with no reason given. What you said above could have been the reason as my subscriptions are all for one or three years.
