I am wondering if anyone has done any work integrating in their membership site with a smartphone app. My site has data that is updated daily and I think it would be a nice feature for them to simply see the daily updated data on their smartphone. I know I have apps that I need to login to be able to use so I assume it would not be that difficult.

Just curious is anyone here has gone done this road already. If so what challenges did you face and I wouldn't mind talking with you for a couple of minutes if you were up to it.

    Thanks

I have had people login with their smartphones and access my site along with .pdf files there (via the browser), so half the battle is already done. What additional functionality would you want ?

I would want an app that would push the data to their phones once it is updated in the database. Would not be a big deal I just think some members would find it helpful that they don't have to go to the site everyday and they could just open their iphone app and the data is already there for them.

I am just trying to find ways to keep memberships running longer.

I do not know how your data looks like, but RSS feed is usually the best way to push regularly updated data. It can be protected with usual htpasswd protection to make it available for users only.
There is a number of scripts that allows to publish RSS feeds. If you ask, we will help you to setup this. We are interested to get into mobile market, so just contact us via helpdesk (mark a ticket : "for Alexander Smith" ) with description (and samples) of your content, and information how it is currently published, and we will be happy to suggest a solution.

No, twitter posts are published on twitter.com servers and we cannot protect it. However, twitter has nothing related with this task, as I said RSS is more suitable for it.

I'm wondering about using some sort of java app to sync files between an Android app and an app in a secure product folder a client only has access to via subscription. Client logs in (either integrated in the app or simply via a device browser) then clicks their subscription and the app automatically checks for new files, if there are any they update them.

Cant be that hard I don't think.
