    Hi,

I have a friend who a couple of years ago tried to start a music history membership site but due to many reasons he has not had the time to continue with it. He has given it to me and I am trying to see the best way to get it happening.

He has used Adpass621 for his memberships but I he has told me he has not been able to get any help for it. It seems he has over 3000 members who have yet to be activated and in many cases the one year membership has expired.
It uses a flat txt file database using the | key.

It seems the Adpass company have a new version now which is around $180 so I have been looking for an alternative which has more to offer for less a price and most of all -- free support and a forum like this. I am used to the oscommerce and oscdox forums which are just great when one has a problem.

Amember seems to be the best script I have seen thus far but I need to know if it indeed is what I need for my simple needs. Some of the posts have talked of it not being what they need, so I thought before I even try it out I should ask first as I do not have excess time to spend.

The site is a root directory with html files for free reading plus a reg form to join with several time options. They can pay by PayPal using the current script but I would like to include a couple of other standard options that I see are in amember anyway.

Once they pay and are okayed by manual Admin, have a user name and pwd which gives them access to a member's only directory where they can read more in depth stuff in html files.

There are a couple of fields I would like in the registration such as favourite era, star, song, music style etc etc. Can I do this easily?

I would like them to be able to download free and bought mp3 files from there and also be able to buy a few other things.

I would also like to know what actions they perform in the members area for example when they do download files even free ones.

Once I get that info then I need to know how I can convert the files he has in these txt files so I can import them into the mysql dbase.

I have them already in Excel but figure the field names would be different so how would I do this.

I would appreciate some info and advice for the above at first so I can evaluate the program which seems to please a lot of folk out there.

Thanks for the opportunity to converse..

yes you will be able to add fields from aMember CP -> Add fields

    Sure this is possible.

unfortunately aMember does not log each action. But first access to member's area will be logged.

You will be able to import users from CSV file. You can define import file format in aMember CP -> Import
