In case anyone else out there is doing some heavy customization with Joomla and JomSocial and wants to be sure that members can set their timezone/gender during aMember registration vs. JomSocial... I have asked (and am paying for) the CGI team to write/update timezone and gender information to Joomla as an extension to the plugin. We are still currently using 1.5, and are not migrating to 1.6 since the Joomla release cycles are about to start moving on a more regular schedule. The timezone info will go to the core Joomla user parameters where it belongs, and gender will go into the JomSocial table. I copied the core timezone values from Joomla and added them to aMember as a dropdown field, as well as the Gender field with exact matching field options from JomSocial (they were Male/Female, so no surprises). Given the popularity of JomSocial with Joomla I wanted to let others know that this work will be done ASAP. Why is this important? Because if you use aMember as the subscription manager and therefore do not want to use the JomSocial registration (which is really designed for a public site), then you wind up with users having to go to many places to manage basic information. By the way, have I mentioned lately how much CGI rocks and how great they are to work with?
