Hey guys, I'm new to the boards. My name is anthony! Now that I've introduced myself, I have a few questions about aMember. . I've successfully integrated aMember and clickbank, well hopefully, I got the test page to work. . so I created a test user and it took me to the page where I enter the credit card information. . I'll play with adding products etc more, I have access to training material for that. . Here are my two main concerns. . Forum integration. . I want a forum on my membership site, however. .I want the same username and password that they used to sign up for my membership site to be used for the forum. . any help? I'm completely new to using forums so I would need to use what kind of forum, where I can get it, etc. . Time Released Content. . I want members to get content released to them based on how long they've been a member. . So in February member1 joins. . he gets BONUS-A in march. . and BONUS-B in April. . However, member2 joins in march, I want this member to get BONUS-A in April, and BONUS-B May. Does that make sense?
PHPbb3 or vbulletin will work. Since the members have been signed up in amember already, it will copy their info into the new databases, so username and pass will be the same. Use the amember incremental content plugin to do this. David
Thanks davidm1, I truly appreciate it. Although the information was probably in this form already, I'm in a big hurry and I'm not familiar with the amember jargon/terms so I wouldnt know what to look for. . So thank you for putting up with my, probably been answered 100 times question. Are they hard to configure and is there any documentation for either of these that you could recommend me? I'm pretty good about figuring things out myself, but whatever can make it easier on me would help. Thanks again davidm1
hi anthony, Another forum you can try is SMF. I used to use phpBB2 and personally find phpBB3 a big jump in complexity for configuration. You can get their documentations at their websites. Just Google them. Lee
SMF is easy to use and works fine now that the plugin has been fixed! I suppose it all depends on how elaborate you want your forum to be. The most confusing bit for me was how to fit it in with the look of my site - putting in headers and footers and configuring the .css file, etc. Apart from that it's pretty simple. Dave
Thanks to everyone who helped. Right now I'm working on my membership site so hopefully I can figure out how to use those two things. . All I really need forums for is to answer questions. . The original idea was to have the person post a comment in the section of my site that they had a question about, but we're leaning towards a forum.
at the installation screen for SMF, under MySQL database, do I enter the same database that I used to install amember or wordpress. . or do I create a completley new MySQL database for the forum itself?
Well, what I'm trying to do is have everyone who signed up through amember. . have the same username and password in the forums as they did to get into my membership site? Is this where that comes into play? or does that happen somewhere else? My guess is if I use the same MySQL database as amember, then anyone who created a username for the membership site, that same username and password will work for the forums? Correct me if I'm wrong. .
You use the same database. The SMF installation program will create tables with the prefix smf_ and the SMF plugin will ensure that new users signed up through amember will have the same login credentials. I had absolute hell with the plugin as it was using one of the fields in the table incorrectly. However, the support guys have fixed it now. When you go into the Edit mode of whatever amember product you've created, the SMF Access and SMF Additional Access should show "Hero Member" and nothing else. Dave
I have the forum installed, using the same database as amember is using, but it looks as if it still is setting up new members, but not granting them permission to the forums.
No, I havne't. How does aMember even know I'm using SMF? Isn't there some sort of SMF amember plugin I need to enable first?
Awesome I found the SMF Plugin, and enabled it. Now I'm curious what I enter in the fields, if I send a screen shot could you tell me what goes where?
Doesn't look right. This is mine: I think you'll need to do the bit in the "Auto-detected values..." section.
