Can amember manage users on a remote mysql database (on a different server)? I'm running a J2EE application that uses a MySQL database for all data, including a simple user table. But, we are not permitted to install PHP on that server.

So, can we just install amember on different hosting server with PHP to manage the remote J2EE mysql user database? I understand we will need to buy services from you or develop a plugin ourselves to interact with this database properly, but is this remote setup workable? We don't need amember to protect directories, just manage user subscriptions (payment, adding them to the database, changing groups upon expiration, etc.).

It is possible if servers located in the same network. If servers are in different datacenters there will be serious delays that will make normal work impossible.

Yes, it will be in a different datacenter. But, why would there be serious delays? If both servers are on fast networks, isn't it just a function time it takes to connect and submit a query?

Unfortunately, any script won't work RELIABLE in such case. Remote network can work nice, but someday there will be delays and you will get lot of troubles. I don't recommend such setup and we are unable to give any warranty if it will work as expected.
