Hi I recently got aMember installed for my website, however now I plan to move to a new server. Does the script have to be installed again or can I move everything over to the new hosting company like I would move any other site?

Any advice/tips for the move would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Sharon

You can move it over like any other system- eg cpanel to cpanel.
But the protect folders need to be updated, and any other integrations that need to know the full path need updating. Occasionally the move will change the database names too.

Thanks - I didn't install aMember myself (the good folks at CGI did that for me) so I'm not sure what's involved in changing the name of a database. Is there a step by step somewhere on how to do that?

Thanks Alexander. I'm reading these instructions and have a question re: the following

Go to aMember Cp -> Protect Folders and protect your folders again. Remove old .htaccess files if necessary.

How will I tell the difference between old .htaccess files and new ones? Does the system create duplicate files and do I go by date (ie. remove the older file)? What would determine whether or not removal of a .htaccess was necessary or not?

    Thanks

    Sharon

    Sharon,
Old .htaccess files will have old path to fodlers from old server.
So you need to remove .htaccess files from all protected areas after move.
Then go to ammeber CP -> Protect folders and set protection again.

My hosting company moved my site to a new server last night and DNS settings have been changed. The static HTML pages are now accessible from a browser, so I am assuming that the DNS changes have propagated. When I try to access the aMember CP I just get a blank page, however. As such, I cannot even log into the administrator side. The sign-up page produces a similar result.

Any advice or insight is appreciated.

Check server error log also make sure that you have display_errors enabled in php.ini (possible amember generate an error but it's not displayed) If this will not help contact us in helpdesk.
