Multiple emails being sent

    Hello,

    I have a client experiencing a problem where after someone registers for a program, multiple course registration emails are being sent, as many as 80+. It happens whether they register with a coupon or not, or when the site admin registers some one manually through the control panel.

    Their ISP has confirmed that these are not duplicate messages but the same message sent many times. Under the E-Mail System Configuration in the CP, nothing is set. Although probably unrelated, this issue started happen just after the security patch was implemented from a few weeks ago was implemented. They are currently using 3.16Pro.

    The other curious thing is that I cannot reproduce the problem, when I register for a class either via the CP or registration page, I only get the one email.

    I have issued a support ticket however its a little slow and the problem is critical in that they want to start 2 new programs this week.

    If anyone has any ideas as to what to took for, no matter off the wall it may seem, please let me know.

    Just wanted to bring this issue up again. Support has not responded. Does any one know how/where the course confirmation emails are generated?

    So a couple of things come to mind:

    1) if they applied the security updates, shouldn't they be on 3.18?
    2) So if the email config is empty than you are using the hosts native php_mail() function. Curious of that behavior changes if you specify a SMTP server?
    3) Does it happen if an Admin just creates a user and does not add a product or only after a valid subscription is added?
    4) Does it happen to all products or just some?
    5) Are there are Customized Signup Emails or Automatic Emails defined (check at the bottom of edit product page.

    Thanks for helping out.

    From what I gather, applying the updates did not actually upgrade them to 3.18. It was just a patch to their 3.16.

    I thought about doing this but did not switch to the SMTP server settings, mainly because I personally cannot reproduce the problem so I won't know that it is or is not working till someone else signs up and reports the problem. Not entirely comfortable using their customers as guinea pigs if you know what I mean but if that is what it takes... Can't see that that would be the problem because the mail was working fine up until recently. The patch what the only changes to the system and it is pretty unlikely those are the cause.

    The customer has turned off the automatic email confirmations so before I tell them to turn it back on, I'll need to have a definite plan. If you think this is a viable option, do let me know.

    It happens in both cases, a customer enrollment or the admin adding a customer via the CP.

    It has been reported on at least 2 products.

    Each of these products has a customized signup email which is sent at the time of signup (0 days).

    If this sparks any possibilities, please let me know.
