    Hi there

My present database is an XML document, can this information be imported into aMember or will I have to copy/enter all the existing members into the new database manually.

Another question, my current member area pages are all aspx, what should they be when using aMember, html? Or does that depend on my new hosting platform that I am transferring my site too which is Linux/Unix based and not a windows based platform. I know that I will need to change all the extensions for my new platform, (I think) is HTML fine (and secure)??

Sorry about my ignorance, I am new to this.

    Thank you

    Regards

    Barry

    Hi Barry,

Through the admin interface of Amember you can import delimited files (.CSV, etc) and provide custom mapping of fields.

If you can get your data into that format (open your XML and File->Save As to CSV) you should be all set. Let me know if you have problems/questions.

Regarding ASPX.. Depending on the complexity of the site, I don't think you will just be able to rename your ASPX files.

Amember relies on PHP/HTML and does support HTTPS (secure), you must, however, obtain an SSL certificate for your domain (your host or domain registrar should be able to assist)

    Hi Skippybosco

Thanks for your reply. Here is some feedback on my progress, What I did was get all the existing members to add their details to a free signup. I will then go and add their membership options to their profile and delete the free sign up and adjust the expiry dates. I thought that was the easiest way, I had not seen you post till today.

Then with regards to the ASPX pages, luckily they did not have any ASPX code in them really, I had a guy helping me with my site and he used Microsoft Dot Net to create the protected area. I was lucky that I was just able to convert the file extensions and everything works fine.

It has been a huge mission converting etc as my site has over 3000 pages, thousands of links and 8 gigs of data, not only did I have to do this major conversion I have had to move to a hosting company that better suited my needs. The only problem is that my new site has a temporary hosting address to getting the email to work is a problem and everything is based on a temp URL, I will have to take my site down for a couple of days to make sure that the automated payment process is actually working, well hopefully I can get it sorted / tested in a couple of hours. I am sure my members will understand.

Thank you so much for your response!!

    Kind regards

    Barry
