I am looking for a script that has an excellent member directory. This is for a networking group. It could be a feature of a larger script, like a forum or CMS. What we need is something that would automatically populate a basic listing from the amember signup data, then give the member the ability to fill in more info about themselves, plus add a photo (like Facebook) The ultimate goal is to have a way to view the entire membership directory on one page, with a thumbnail photo and profile data visible (i.e. name, employer, city, sentence about what they do) Any suggestions?
Anyone? I would add to this a request for a good community calendar type script. Something that would allow the addition and display of upcoming events to the membership.
Jack, this is one of our short/long term planning for our non-profit organization. I've been looking at PHPmyDirectory. I would love to get calendar too. If anyone wants to post on our directory or calendar, they have to purchase for a fee from us. That where aMember comes in. I also looked at BosDev.com. But there seems to be no API available. Hopefully someone here will give us some recommendations. Dave
I believe Ken Gary has developed one that integrates with wordpress. go to Kencinus and send him an email. David
Thanks David! I'll do that. I just decided to go with Wordpress for the site anyway, and bought his amProtect.
Hey Thanks! Yes, I'm working on an aMember plugin this week in fact that I'm calling DirectorEasy. It will work beautifully with (or without) amProtect and aMember. It is an all-in-one script that lets you add fields to the WordPress profile for the user to fill out. The admin decides what those fields are and if they can allow HTML in them or not plus whether or not to convert the data to tags when you create the posts for the members in the directory. The directory is created by attaching a post to the users. Then all of their data is pulled into that post. That way the admin controls who gets to be in the directory or not. And just because the user updates their profile later, their directory listing doesn't get updated unless the admin goes to their post and updates it again. The admin has control. Whenever the user updates their profile an email is fired off to the admin so they can check it and update their post with it. Another thing it does for you is wipe out the dashboard widgets you'd normally see when you log into WordPress admin. That way it's clean when they edit their WordPress profiles and fill in the additional fields. That's where I am on this project right now. Still implementing it on the second site. I'm sure I'll be adding features to it. Does this sound like it would work?
Jack, You might check out BuddyPress for the member directory too. Profile fields, search - all built in. Free and a Automattic project. http://buddypress.org
