greetings My name is Mark and my site is howtostretch.com. I am adding a membership option to my website, as many of you have already done. I have viewed a few of the sites and they are doing just what I am looking for. Question 1: How much space does the amember script/database take up on my host server? I have 12 gb of space. I ran the test script today, and my host is compatible and Amember can be uploaded. If Amember uses more that 12 gigs, my hosting company suggested that I upgrade to a larger space before I upload Amember, so nothing would be disrupted when they upgrade me to a different server ( which would be required if I upgraded my plan to have greater than 12 gb). I would suppose that a larger membership would take more space, but don't know how much more space. Please inform me. I wrote my site in Dreamweaver, so my html skills are limited. I would think it would be best if Amember installed my scripts for me. Any suggestions pro/con, as to which would be easiest/work best? Thank you Mark Rosenberg howtostretch.com
Mark, You right require space depends on your user's database. aMember files require 10M on the server database size depends on how many users you will have. 12gb is usually enough. We can help with installation, feel free to submit installation request after purchase.
Thank you Alex, for your quick reply. I will be in contact later this week, to purchase Amember Pro. I will upgrade my server: I am thinking that if 12 gb is usually enough, I also have to take in account the space of my videos, of which there will be many. I don't want to migrate servers once I get this up and running. I look forward to working with you. Mark
My site has many hours of audio and a huge library of PDF files, and the whole thing takes up less than 2GB of space, including the database. The size of the aMember script and database will be very tiny in proportion to your videos. When I started with aMember, my HTML skills were also limited, and I had almost no knowledge of PHP, CSS, or any of the other website technologies. Even so, aMember was very easy to work with, and required much less of a learning curve than many other scripts I've worked with over the years.
Thank you, Alan, that is helpful info. I will have hours of videos, so my current server might be fine. I like your site, btw, simple, clean and to the point.
If you are using large videos you should consider an offsite solution to store them as well- like amazon s3. David
