I have an old version of aMember Pro 3.x. I wanted to get that fully running on my new, self hosted, site before having version 4 installed. With much help from support it is finally running, however, when I go to protect a folder I always use new_rewrite but it's grayed out and you can't select and this is what you see:new_rewrite (RewriteRule doesn't work in .htaccess files on this server) Keep in mind this is a Mac Mini Server running Mavericks. Every time I search here for an answer I keep getting taken to the same thread, and it's wrong at least in this instance. I do what the thread says and new_rewrite can be selected but after doing it...it hasn't protected the folder at all. You can go directly to it and open it like there is no protection at all. This is the thread that I see everywhere that is incorrect but people swear by it:http://www.amember.com/forum/threads/new_rewrite-override-setting.7296/

Maybe it's correct if you are using Apache or Windows servers but you are not.

Maybe, just maybe aMember doesn't work on Apple OS I have no idea, question you need ask aMember support.

Caesar your post relates to Apache servers but the problem seems to be on an Apple mini server running Mavericks.

The apple mini server is very stable and reliable. And for the most part, Apache is Apache and yes, I am running Apache server. The problem was solved by Alex from Support. I was directed to change AllowOveride None to AllowOveride All in the /Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2/sites/XXXX.conf file and then restart the server. Then everything began working. (XXXX is not an actual file name, it was much longer so if you have this problem, change to what is the applicable path for you.)

I was asking Support, and it was Support that figured it out...thank you. It's just difficult being in very different time zones and communicating but they were persistent in helping and especially the past few days they were awesome in rapid, almost instantaneous responses. I just switched to the mac server in house after paying hundreds monthly to host offsite for years. It works great and after being a PC guy my whole life, I still own all Window's PC's except for the server, it's time we come to grips with iOS as a stable alternative.

I owned a blackberry up until a year ago, now I have an iPhone and iPad and they're pretty cool. The biggest problem I have with the iOS system as compared to windows is I have to play detective to figure out a good many tasks. Maybe I'll become the forum MAC expert, but don't count on it soon. I'm thankfully to everyone that tried to help and those that did.
