Hi All, I have a weird problem and I don't think there will be an answer here. I had to move my Amember site from one server to another in in the intrim had a problem with the pluggins screwing me up. Got that fixed but there are two things that are weird. One is my own email address although it gets out of amember and out of my server it doesn't get to me. The weirder thing about it is that using the same email account on the same server using Horde webmail I do get the email. I told you it was weird. I can also see the email go out of the mail logs on the server but it never gets to me. Any ideas on how I can trouble shoot this? The second part of this that is weird is that I only see a selection for sendmail in the configuration. There used to be smtp and sendmail but now it's gone. I'm concerned about other emails getting lost because of this. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Steve
More on the email. I think I know what might be wrong Hi all, Well, the mail problem is going to be a pain for me. Here's what's happening. When I send mail from the program it sends it out via anonymous@spanky.secureserver.net Rather than membership@highschoolofperformingarts.com This is causing comcast, aol and others to block the email. Do you have any idea how to fix this? I believe it might be because I cannot turn on SMTP only default and sendmail but I'm not sure. Does anyone know how I can get SMTP turned on in the CP? It was there but when I migrated it to a new server it is now gone. Thanks, Steve Lewis
Hi Again, Well I just selected default and then saved it and when I came back SMTP was there to select so I guess that isn't the problem because the email is sitll going out as anonymous@spanky.secureserver.net and not membership@highschoolofperformingarts.com. Any ideas??? Thanks, Steve
Steve, What email address do you have in the outgoing email configuration in Amember? http://yourdomain.com/amember/admin/setup.php?notebook=E-Mail This should be the address used to send from (at least in my setup)
Hi Skippy, Yes, I have membership@highschoolofperformingarts.com as the Outgoing Email Address but the server picks it up as anonymous@xxx.com (name of the server). The reply to works correctly and other than ISP's like comcast it goes through properly. It's an SMTP setting somewhere in the amember code that probably needs to be changed. In the webmail for the same email account it sends it out correctly. The reason this is starting to affect me is that ISP's like comcast are throwing away emails that don't have the the actual domain name in the header. They are making our lives miserable but I understand why this they are doing it. It's to prevent spam and that is a good thing. I just need to fix it in my site. I have a feeling that it might work right in 3.x but I'm running 2.x. I sent a ticket to support, hopefully they'll have an answer or, if anyone knows how to change it I will do it myself. I am going to upgrade to the new version but I have a big 60th reunion going on in June and I don't want to mess with the upgrade till it's over. In the meantime I set up dada mail that does it properly so I have to extract all the email addresses and send the bulk through dada. Thanks, Steve
Well, I think that an upgrade is in order here. Although I did not speak to Alex yet what I'm hearing is that I can put the proper SMTP email address in the newer version. I just paid for it now I have to go through the pain of upgrading.
I am having the same problem. Comcast is blocking e-mails sent via amember. Is there a way to correct this? It is only e-mails sent through amember that are blocked. What version of Amember included a fix, if there is one. I am currently running 3.0.8. This is starting to become a critical issue with our organization and I need to figure it out soon. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Brian
