I bought the plugin for the free SMF bulletin board and it's working okay. With this particular board, I've run into a small glitch if you decide to use an alternate theme. Other than this minor issue, it seems pretty decent...

Anyway, I wouldn't mind buying another plugin if there is another bulletin board that is just way over and beyond the others. Has anyone here ever worked with more than one of these and come to the conclusion that one is just superior? If so, I'd love to know which and why... Even if there's a cost to get it.

    Thanks in advance...

I am working with Phorum on several sites. You can completely integrate it even with your layout and its fast like hell as well, check www.phorum.org

Provide a bit of info about your site. Are you using basic HTML, ASP, PHP, CMS (which one), etc.

I don't think any of the boards out there (including vBulletin) are way better than SMF. SMF is free and full featured. And it sounds like you already have it running smoothly on your site. Your golden. Just solve your theme issue.

You can also check out Fireboard if you're running Joomla. It's almost out of beta and based on Joomlaboard (which I use). The developers have added most of the functionality and looks of SMF but it runs as a native Joomla Component - so no bridges or aMember plug-ins.

Thanks Sergei, I will take a look at that shortly...

121books... Yes, I see your point. It's going to be an MMA (mixed martial arts) site. Talk about wagering on UFC etc...

I've been seeing lots of mention about Joomla on these boards and I actually have no clue what it is. Is it a template of some sort?

    Hi!

A program, non-granular in permission structure, is not an option for me.

In this regards, I find the xoops forum newbb to be the best, if that was your question. It requires quite a bit of design since the default seems to be a bit complicated to me.

The excellent design is of permission templates, where one could shoot on each category on respective groups with which aMember superbly integrates. In an exchange with the module developer, who is also the core developer of xoops, he informed me that this will also be applied to the xoops core. Hence it seems to be a very promising start.
