A few months ago I contacted Amember support about an issue. Clickbank allows instant access to the product once a customer has purchased the product. This is great, most people won't take the time to check their e-mail for a download link/access information before e-mailing me an angry letter.

The drawback to Clickbank is their high prices, especially with our low cost products.

Does the Paypal Plugin support the ability for customers to download the product right away? Last I checked the paypal verification process took a few minutes.

Clickbank is a payment system not content delivery so you still need a way to deliver it- ie amember.

Both clickbank and paypal tell amember when the payment has been completed, so access to the content should be instant.

My mistake, I should have been more clear. I already own Amember and use it with clickbank. I would like to switch over to Paypal but the last time I contacted Amember support there were limitations with paypal that prevented the instant access function that my customers enjoy with clickbank from working with paypal.

I went into my e-mail history. The specific function is "auto-login" where amember will allow immediate access to the content once the customer makes the payment. So the order process is like this:
buy button->checkout->thanks page->product access/download (as in, they don't have to check their e-mail to get access info)

The auto-login feature is needed to give the customer access to the product without waiting a few minutes.

Here is the explanation Amember support gave when I asked about it, all this was said in late October of last year:

So has this situation changed or is it the same?

As long as the IPN has told amember of the payment they should get access. I've seen it happening right away with no delay.
They seem to be able to login right away as well from the thanks page- login link.

If you sign up at my site you'll see this in action ;)

I think what amember is saying, is that the download isnt available on the thank you page- they need to click the login link 1st, then they can get access to the downloads.
