Paypal Pro

I purchased Amember today on the idea that users could sign up on my site, enter their CC info, and be billed monthly automatically, without leaving my site. I wanted to avoid the transfer to paypal.com

I was told by Amember Support before purchasing that what I wanted to do was possible. Now, however, I'm seeing a lot of people on this board that say that it cannot be done.

I need to know if this is possible or not, as I need to get a refund if it's not possible.

Will amember store the CC info on my server, or will it send the info to paypal for storage using their recurring billing API?

I realize it's possible on PayPal's end to do it. But I need confirmation that it will be done that way through amember. I was under the impression that it used the cc_core plugin and didn't really interface with PayPal's recurring payments api. The reason I believe so is the fact that it costs an extra $30/month to set this up (on top of the $30/month for payments pro), and nowhere in the instructions does it say that it's necessary to do so.

I'm trying to test it out with a sandbox account, but I keep getting the error "Payment failed: You do not have permissions to make this API call" even though I put in the correct api email, user, password, and key.

Per this thread it seems that the CURRENT paypal_pro plugin does not work the way that I would like it to. However, the next version of amember will include a plugin that DOES interface with PayPal's recurring payments API.

In what version is paypal_pro plugin current, i.e. 3.1.8? Does it really cost $60.00/month for Payments Pro with recurring payments?

Apparently, I am mistaken, thinking WPP handles recurring as well. This is nearly the cost of 1shopping cart + merchant + gateway.

I'm not sure if it is yet included with 3.1.8...the thread at http://www.amember.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8627&page=3 explains if you need it you can request it until it is if not. On PayPals end it is $30/mo to have a Website Payments Pro account and if you want it to handle recurring PayPal requires another $30. It is nearly the cost of what you mention because that is pretty much what it is. I'm using it now and it works pretty well and there are quite a few more options available for handling PayPal payments(and altering recurring payments) from within my Payments Pro account beyond what one has with a regular PayPal account. If you need to accept PayPal as well as cc's both on a recurring basis this is a pretty good route to go, imo, for if anything not having to deal with multiple payment gateways. You may be able to do it a bit cheaper by having a regular PayPal account which works with recurring already with no additional monthly fees(but not nearly the options) and have, for example, a separate authorize.net account for cc payments(I think it's an additional $10/mo for them to handle recurring) but that is a decision only you can make.

On PayPal, it says regarding Website Payments Pro:

Customers stay on your site. If you have a pre-integrated cart or the resources for a custom integration, you control the customer experience from start to finish.

If customers choose the credit card option, is this the case with aMember? Everything is done "on your site" but sent to PayPal? Also, if customers choose the PayPal option, will they be forced to login to an account? This is an issue for us now using PayPal Standard, is that when customers choose the "pay using a credit card, where available" option they are able to pay the first month without setting up a recurring payment.
