We are in the process of converting our annual membership from an all manual process to perhaps Amember. I'm still in the process of configuring/trying out Amember.

    Here is what we have:

    • 3 types of annual membership (Individual, Family, Corporate)
    • Membership is from 04/01 to 03/31. This is fixed at the moment
    • We do not want to use recurring billing, but we do want members to renew via the website. Basically, they get an e-mail 30-days prior to the end of expiration to go renew their membership.
    • First time members pay a fixed introductory rate for the first year regardless of type of membership, and thereafter, they renew at the regular rate for their type of membership.
    • All initial sign-up will be approved by an admin. (Maybe not display the signup page)

Basically, what I would like to do is setup something like a membership that
starts off with introductory price of say $25. At the end of the membership period (03/31 of following year regardless of start date) it goes to the regular price of $80, and it renews for another year at that price.

    What are some recommended configurations?

I've tried setting up a product with a fixed start date (04/01/09, a duration of a year, a regular price, and a trial price, but apparently when the member renews using the same product, the start date remains fixed and NOT beginning after the end of the original membership. Also, when I set it up this way, it renews at the trial price and not the regular price even though I set "trial group" to "1". This probably works like it is supposed to, but definitely not like I expected it to. :)

I've thought about setting up a separate "trial" product that ends on a fixed date, and when the trial product expires, only regular priced products are viewable from the member page. The regular priced products would be a duration of a year, and so would begin after the trial period ends. Members would then just renew their current product. New renewal would begin when the current one expired.

The other thought I had was to set up separate products for each membership year. (E.g. 2010 Individual Annual Membership, 2011 Individual Annual Membership) along with a separate trial product.

Then I would have 3 products for each year. The advantage of this would be that I could see members based on which product they had. This comes in handy when you want to send a note to members that haven't renewed in a while. The disadvantage is that it requires setting up new products every year. Not a huge deal though.

I'm open to creative suggestions. What ideas do you all have?
