I put the ftp root html directory into the admin config to set the folder protection- but html contains members directory (my site) as well as amember (my amember installation directory).
As soon as I did that it booted me out and now I get the following browser message when trying to log into the amember admin page:

    The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

How can I change the protect dir if I can't login?

    thanks for your help!

    Please never protect aMember folder!

Go to webhosting control panel -> file manager, navigate to folder which you have protected and remove .htaccess file from it.
