Hi - I'm new to amember and having a mare with protecting my folders:

Without any protection I can /amember/login.php no problems and I get redirected to the page I want to...

ProductURL: xxxx.com/securedvd/mainpage.html (securedvd is my main folder which I want to protect, with mainpage.html as the main page within it).

But when I try to protect the folder xxxx.com/securedvd/ (using htpasswd option, protected URL: xxxx.com/securedvd/) and then try to login it returns a 500 internal error!

I know this is a newb mistake, but ANY HELP PLEASE!

    Thanks

Are you able to use the new_rewrite protection? That is probably the more tested one and it works great for me.

Unfortunately the new_rewrite option is greyed out and I cannot select it - reason being given that 'Rewriterule doesn't work in .htaccess files on this server'

What have I got to do to enable new_rewrite?

    Thanks, Mike

In order to use new_rewrite protection in amember you need to have mod_rewrite enabled on your server. To check if it is you can fo to your amember admin / version and search for it. If it isnt, ask your hosting company to enable it.

I've had to ask support and now 'new_rewrite' is enabled ... but I'm still having problems protecting my main folder (as described above) - even using new_rewrite it still causes a 500 internal error. Works all fine until I go to protect the folder.
