    Hi,

Having a Joomla site w/AmemberPro works very well. I am embedding wmv files on members only pages. Once a member views a particular video, I have discovered that if I right click on the video, then click on properties, I can see the URL of that video. I then copied the URL and pasted into my browser. I clicked for it to be found and a pop-up box shows up asking me if I want to save the file to my hard drive.

Is there any way that I can keep (protect) the video file from being saved to everyone's hard drive?

    Thanks,

If you're concerned about wmv digital rights management, I think James at http://www.MySmallBizUniversity.com might be the best one to advise on that. Thats the method he uses to protect his content.

I use flash video embedded in the web page, but ultimately that too could be ripped from the site.

If you use the new_rewrite folder protection in aMember and put the wmv files in a protected directory, the user will be able to access and download the files only if they are logged into their member-only area. So only members can download the files.

But if you want to prevent the members from downloading the video files - i.e. only streaming would be allowed, you would have to use some kind of DRM and that is, in my opinion, somewhat unreliable as I am personally not aware of a DRM system that hasn't been cracked already.

Agreed. If someone really wants your movies, they'll get them.

I haven't tried it, but what would it look like in a screen movie capture?

Point is...there is always a way.

Thankfully, most people don't waste the time.

Thanks to all! I appreciate the comments! Since posting, I have been busy researching the subject and pretty much have come to the same conclusions.

I also have used embedded Flash, but wanted to offer a little better resolution and screen size.

Thanks Davidm1 - I will check into your mentioned reference.
