To make sure I understand this. The protection folders protects the web pages that I only want my paying members to see. So if someone that is not a paying member and tries to login, they will be sent to a page notifying them that access is denied. Am i correct?

    Yes,

When setting up amember you need to do two things basically (theres lots of OTHER stuff) but the BASICS are define folders to be protected Lets say directory a, b, c, and d.
Defines PRODUCTS (or subscription types). These might be Product X, Y and Z
    Then relate products to directories.
So product X may be access to directory a only
Product Y maybe access to directories b and c
and Product Z maybe access to directories a and d

Its possible to have overlap of product/directory combo's as above or other combinations. Relating of protected directories to product is done by adding the paths in the product management section of control panel

    Hope this helps
